Rockband Project 2022
The Rockband Project is an opportunity for lighting design students to put their knowledge into practice. Each student is assigned a song to design the lights to, and the band on stage is compiled of another group of students playing the song on the video game, Rockband. At the end of the semester, the bands perform these songs with the lights designed by fellow students and puts on a performance for other students to come and enjoy!

So What
During the pandemic, it was unsafe for us to put on Rockband in person. So, as an alternative, lighting design students challenged themselves by doing the Rockband project fully by rendering the rig and programming the song in WYSIWYG. It was an excellent way to stay creative and continue designing lighting in a way that was safe for our audiences and encouraged students to be creative with not only the design, but also with the truss and fixtures.

H.O.P.E. Project
As the pandemic began to slow down, and in person collaboration was becoming safe again, the H.O.P.E. Project was born. It was advertised to be a collection of student-led pieces that could stand on their own that was eventually compiled together and streamed to an audience. I had the pleasure of working with several different dance choreographers to light the piece called F.A.T.: Finally At Tranquility. This is the video that was streamed during the final performance.
Light Art Project
As a lighting designer, it is important to flex those expressionistic muscles. This project, known as the Light Art project, inspired students to create a video with audio that shows a story, or a journey, through light. I myself was interested in the concept of natural or uncontrollable light, and I put my photography skills to the test as I created a story about the flame and the power and irregularity it possesses. I call this piece, The Fire Dance.
